First time to a shooting Range

I didn't had any childhood dreams of trying out shooting but when i heard about some of my collegues who tried the shooting ranges in hawaii as part of their onsite trip , i browsed for the ones nearby and found Sunset Shooting Range in Poconno,PA a goood choice esp for beginners. The web site is pretty decent and provided good information and even got a forum where you post your queried and instructor reply !!.This place is a 90 minute drive from Avenel NJ where i stay.I was worried after hearing horror stories from my colleagues about the injuries suffered due to recoiling effect of the heavy duty ones and did every homework (blogs, youtube) to make myself more familiar about the whole process.

Drive in Aruns Honda CRV was a smooth affair and the weather was shining and the roads free of traffic
.we reached there in 2 hrs with a short lunch break in between. The place was a hard find since my Garmin nuvi GPS couldnt locate the building.Any way we called them and got lucky the second time as we got some one sensible to guide us to the spot. The place seems to be busy as the parking lot was full and we had to wait for 30 minutes to find a parking space.Once we were in there was a small queue and we were asked to enter our names and ID details in the register. We set off to the field which is an open area.We were send back and asked to wear the gear which includes the ear plugs and glasses. All instructors were busy and we waited for another 15 minutes watching the area and getting familiar.Soon our instructor Dan was with us and we told them we are beginners and he suggested we start with a .22 Rifle.Dan explained us the mandatory safety briefing and we got ready to take a shot .They use real bullets as opposed to most other ranges which uses pellets.Dan loaded the gun and set 30 yard target which i think is standard for the Rifles. The recoiling wasnt bad as i thought and i got comfortable with the fact the chance of me getting hurt or hurting others seems very slim !!!Next we tried the hand guns and tried the 9 mm glock followed by a 9 mm beretta. For handguns they have paper targets at 10 yard distance. These are more fun compared to rifles as the target is pretty close and if aim properly you hit it clean. Also they hand over the paper target once you are done . The Last we tried was the all favourite AK47.This was kinda tough to handle as the recoiling was bit too much . I used the hand rest to reduce the effect.Overall we tried around 40 rounds and came out quite cheap, around 35 bucks.

Overall this was a great trip .They handed us paper targets back and i was pretty happy with the results .10 out of the 18 were perfect hits and the others were pretty close.
I would definitely plan to go there again and next want to try the shot guns as well the M4's.
